Most beef in the store was raised by nobody you could name, in a place you will never see.

The Amish families who raise beef the old way sell it from a shed at the end of a gravel road. Unless you live nearby, you never get any.

Your freezer stays full of whatever the grocery store had that week.

What you get

Beef you can stand behind, in a size that fits your freezer.

Raised the old way

By Amish families on pasture, grass-raised and grain-finished, no added hormones, no antibiotics.

Cut under USDA inspection

Every animal goes to a USDA-inspected plant, so the beef can be sold by the cut and shipped across state lines.

A fixed weight, a fixed price

A half is 200 lb. A quarter is 100 lb. You know what you are getting and what it costs before you reserve.

Picked up or delivered

Pick up your share in mid-Michigan, or have it shipped. The boxes ship free, frozen, anywhere in our region.

Who we are

A Michigan cattleman and the Amish families he buys from.

We know what it is to want beef from a farm you trust and have no way to get it. Great Lakes Amish Meats is run by a Michigan cattleman who works with the Amish families directly, and a team that has helped family farms sell beef by the share for years.

Every farm signs our standard before its beef carries our name. We do not say anything about the beef that the farm has not put in writing.

Why we started this.

American families want beef they can trust: raised the old way, with nothing in it that should not be there. Amish families across Michigan and Ohio already raise it, but most people can only find it by driving to an Amish store. We give those farms one trusted brand and one place to order, so a family in Detroit or Columbus can put real Amish beef in the freezer without the drive. The farms get a fair price for every animal. You get beef with a name on it.
